Pakistani Music Gems that are Recreated by Bollywood
May 30, 2023
Bollywood is known for producing some of the most iconic and memorable songs in the world, but it’s no secret that some of them have been inspired by Pakistani music. While some Bollywood filmmakers and music directors do credit the original composers and obtain official licenses to use Pakistani songs, many others choose to copy them without permission. This has led to allegations of plagiarism and copyright infringement, resulting in legal battles and controversies.
Some Pakistani artists and music producers have even accused Bollywood of systematically exploiting Pakistani music without giving proper credit or royalties. Despite the controversies surrounding the practice of copying, there is no denying that Pakistani music has had a significant impact on Bollywood and has enriched its musical heritage. Legendary Pakistani singers and composers like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Abida Parveen, and Mohammed Rafi have left an indelible mark on Bollywood music, inspiring several memorable songs that continue to be popular even today. The fusion of Pakistani and Indian musical traditions has also given rise to new genres and sub-genres of music, further enriching the cultural landscape of both countries. Here are some examples of Bollywood songs that are believed to have been copied from Pakistani music:
“Mere Rashke Qamar” – This song, featuring Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz, was a huge hit in 2017, but it was later revealed that it was copied from Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Qawwali.
“Teri Meri Kahani” – This song from the movie “Gabbar is Back” starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan is a copy of the Pakistani song “Ranjha Ranjha Kardi“ by Abida Parveen.
“Tere Bina” – This song, featuring Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez, is believed to be a copy of Pakistani singer Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s song “Tere Bina Nahin Lagda Dil Mera Dholna.”
“Tumhe Apna Banane Ka” – This song from the movie “Hate Story 3” is a remake of the Pakistani song “Tumhe Apna Banane Ki Kasam” by the legendary singer Mohammed Rafi.
